Halo lit LED signage selected by M4 UK for Chesterfield College
Applelec’s metal flat faced built up letters and LEDs have been used to create halo illuminated signage for Chesterfield College’s new reception building by M4 UK Ltd. Called the ‘Heart Space’ by the College, the new reception building was recently opened by Olympic gold medal winner Jessica Ennis.
The new reception building signage had a lot to live up to. The College’s existing exterior signage is illuminated by red neon and positioned at high level to form an iconic landmark on the panorama of the town which can be seen for miles around.
Michael Crotch, Applelec’s Head of Signage, comments:
The lettering for Chesterfield College represents a classic Applelec signage project. Durably constructed letters have been halo illuminated with our superior, energy efficient SloanLED modules which are supplied with a five year warranty on both the LED and power supply.’
M4 UK Ltd commissioned two prototypes for the new sign with letter ‘C’s created in white and green LEDs to enable the College to determine their colour preference. Once decided, the installation was planned assiduously as M4 UK Ltd project manager, Stuart Williams, explains:
‘The sign wiring points were specified at the construction stage then mapped out on the building exterior. Each letter was wired individually with wiring points positioned along two parallel lines. Internally, wires were secured together along the wall to the control box and capped over for easy access.’
